Zacatecas is the silver capital of the north: a UNESCO-listed city of pink cantera stone in a ravine, built on the mines that made colonial Spain rich. The Mina El Eden, a mine you tour underground, sits right in the city.

The cable car up Cerro de la Bufa gives the classic panorama. Jerez, the nearby pueblo magico, is the home of the tamborazo brass bands.
