Coahuila is northern wine and desert country. Parras de la Fuente is home to Casa Madero, founded in 1597 and the oldest winery in the Americas. Cuatro Cienegas is a desert valley of startling turquoise pools, a unique ecosystem in the middle of the Chihuahuan desert.

Saltillo, the capital, is the city of the serape: the striped wool blanket that became a Mexican icon.
