Puebla is the colonial city of tiles and churches: a UNESCO-listed historic center where talavera pottery covers facades and the Capilla del Rosario glitters with gold. It is also the birthplace of mole poblano and chiles en nogada, two of Mexico's signature dishes.
Next door, Cholula holds the largest pyramid by volume in the world, topped by a Spanish church. Puebla makes an easy trip from Mexico City, about two hours by bus, and pairs well with Tlaxcala and Oaxaca itineraries.
