Tamaulipas Travel Guide

Capital: Ciudad Victoria

Tamaulipas

Tamaulipas is the northeastern border state, thinly travelled but holding one standout: the El Cielo Biosphere Reserve, a cloud-forest island in the Sierra Madre Oriental with remarkable birding and the karst formations of the region.

Tampico is the historic Gulf port with a handsome art-nouveau center and the nearby beach of Miramar.

⚠ Tamaulipas sees significant cartel-related violence, particularly outside the main cities. Check current government advisories carefully; many governments advise against non-essential travel to parts of the state.
