Aguascalientes is a small, prosperous state in the Bajio whose capital is one of Mexico's most pleasant colonial cities: a compact center of pink-stone churches, the San Marcos garden and a famous railway heritage.

The state's big draw is the Feria Nacional de San Marcos, held April to May: one of Mexico's oldest and largest fairs, running since 1828, with concerts, bullfights, livestock shows and a huge fairground atmosphere.
