Iowa Travel Guide

Capital: Des Moines

Iowa's icons are cinematic: the Field of Dreams baseball diamond in Dyersville ('if you build it'), and the covered bridges of Madison County from the novel and film. The Mississippi's bluffs at Effigy Mounds and the Loess Hills' wind-deposited ridges are the natural highlights.

Des Moines' East Village and the State Fair (August, the butter cow) anchor the urban side; the Amana Colonies keep communal German heritage.
