Central Greece is the mainland between Athens and Thessaly, and it holds Delphi: the sanctuary of Apollo and the oracle that shaped the ancient world, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, set on the slopes of Mount Parnassus.
Thermopylae, where the 300 Spartans held the pass in 480 BC, is a memorial stop on the motorway. Hosios Loukas monastery is a UNESCO site of Byzantine art. The Parnassus ski center, Arachova village, Galaxidi's 'flour war' carnival, and Evia, Greece's second-largest island, fill out the region.
