Yukon · Capital: Whitehorse

The Yukon is Klondike country: the 1898 gold rush stamped Dawson City into history, and the territory still runs on frontier romance. Whitehorse, the capital, grew from a White Pass railhead into a small, outdoorsy city on the Yukon River.

Kluane National Park holds 17 of Canada's 20 highest peaks, including 5,959-metre Mount Logan, plus the world's largest non-polar icefield. Summer brings the midnight sun; winter brings the aurora and temperatures that test gear and character.
