Nafpaktos is a walled harbor town on the Gulf of Corinth, its Venetian castle climbing the hill behind one of Greece's prettiest small ports. It was off this coast in 1571 that the Battle of Lepanto was fought, the great naval victory over the Ottomans. The harbor is ringed by plane trees and tavernas.
