Lavrio is the working port at the southeastern tip of Attica, built on the ancient silver mines that funded classical Athens. Today it is a second ferry gateway, with sailings to Kea, Kythnos and the Cyclades that spare travelers the trip into Piraeus. The town's neoclassical center and fish tavernas along the harbor make it a stop in its own right.
