Cost of living in Bali

Cost of living

A single person in Bali spends roughly USD 750-2,500/month depending on lifestyle, with an average around USD 1,678 including rent (Citizen Daily Post, Oct 2026). Crowdsourced trackers put the leaner end at USD 1,130-1,600 (World Cost of Living). The spread is almost entirely housing: a Denpasar kos room costs under USD 93/month while a Canggu villa runs 20 times that.

Food is the lever locals use to save: warung meals run USD 2-3, while a full Western diet roughly doubles the food budget. Scooter transport is cheap, but budget for prepaid electricity, which is the utility bill that shocks newcomers, and for private health insurance, which is effectively mandatory even though no visa category requires it at entry.
