Ouranoupoli is the last town before the border of Mount Athos, the autonomous monastic peninsula that admits only men with permits. Pilgrims and cruise boats to the monasteries depart from its harbor, under the watch of the 14th-century Prosforion tower. For everyone else, it is a small resort town with clear water and island views.
