Litochoro sits at the foot of Mount Olympus and is the base for every ascent of Greece's highest peak, including the classic climb to the Mytikas summit at 2,917 meters. The Enipeas Gorge behind the town is a shaded ravine of waterfalls and old watermills, one of the loveliest day hikes in the country. The town itself is a tidy mountain town of stone houses and tavernas.
