Jamaica is the Caribbean's cultural heavyweight: the birthplace of reggae, ska and dancehall, of jerk cooking and the Rastafari movement, an island whose music and food traveled the world while the island itself stayed gloriously itself. The landscape runs from the Blue Mountains' misty peaks to Negril's seven miles of white sand.
The essentials: the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, Dunn's River Falls near Ocho Rios, the beaches of Negril and Montego Bay, and the Blue Mountains for coffee and hiking. Port Antonio, on the wild northeast coast, is the connoisseur's corner: Frenchman's Cove, the Blue Lagoon, Reach Falls.
