Portaria is a stone village on the slopes of Mount Pelion, a short drive above Volos. Cobbled paths link its square, shaded by plane trees, to the start of the Centaurs' Path hiking trail. The village is a base for the Pelion ski center in winter and the beaches of the Pagasetic coast in summer.
