Corfu is the green island of the Ionian: Venetian fortresses, French arcades, British cricket, all layered in Corfu town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007. The Old Fortress guards the harbor; the Liston arcade faces the Spianada square.
The island's coasts: Paleokastritsa's coves in the west, the long beaches of the east. The Achilleion palace, built for Empress Sissi of Austria, sits above the town.
