Halfeti

Southeastern Anatolia, Turkey

Halfeti

Halfeti is the half-drowned old town on the Euphrates, partly submerged by the Birecik Dam in 2000; the old mosque's minaret rises from the water. Boat trips run the canyon past the sunken streets to Rumkale fortress, and the town grows the famous black rose.
