Tlacolula

A valley town famous for its Sunday tianguis, one of the oldest and largest open-air markets in Oaxaca, spilling through streets and courtyards. The 16th-century Santa María de la Asunción temple has a baroque chapel covered in gold leaf. Mezcal palenques dot the surrounding countryside.
