The north-shore village that inspired Avonlea in L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables. Green Gables Heritage Place, the farmhouse that inspired the 1908 novel, sits within Prince Edward Island National Park. In July and August the small community swells with visitors to Cavendish Beach and the park's red cliffs and dunes.
