North (Nord) is savanna and cotton country on the Benue River: wide skies, Fulani towns, and some of the best large-mammal viewing in West Africa.
Garoua, the regional capital, is a river port and the centre of the cotton and textile trade. Nearby Benoue National Park is one of the only places in Africa with a realistic chance of seeing the giant eland, plus elephants, hippos and an estimated 200 lions.
