East Travel Guide

East (Est) is Cameroon's largest and emptiest region: a vast sweep of Congo-basin rainforest, logging country, and some of the most intact wilderness left in Africa.
Its crown jewel is the Dja Faunal Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and one of the largest protected rainforests on the continent, about 90 percent undisturbed. This is a region for serious expedition travel, not casual sightseeing: access is difficult and best arranged with an experienced operator.
