İznik
İznik
İznik, ancient Nicaea, is where the two ecumenical councils of 325 and 787 were held, inside walls that still ring the town. It gave its name to the İznik tiles that decorate the Blue Mosque, and workshops still fire the same cobalt-blue ceramics on the lake shore.
