Mountains & Lakes

Turkey is a mountain country: the Kaçkar alpine wall in the northeast, the volcanic cones of Ararat and Erciyes, the limestone high Taurus, and Uludağ above Bursa. Between them lie the great lakes: Van's soda waters, the white shores of Salda, Tuz Gölü's salt flats, and the crater lake of Abant.
The mountains are a summer escape and a winter ski season; the lakes are for swimming, birdwatching and the long light of the Anatolian evening.
