Konya is the city of Rumi: the 13th-century mystic poet whose tomb, under the famous green dome, draws pilgrims and travellers alike. It was the capital of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum, and its mosques and madrasas are the finest Seljuk architecture anywhere.
The Mevlana Museum is the heart of it; the whirling dervish ceremony (sema) is the soul. In December the Şeb-i Arus commemorations fill the city.
