Tzintzuntzan

The former capital of the Purépecha empire, whose round yácata pyramids overlook Lake Pátzcuaro. The 16th-century Franciscan monastery complex has one of Mexico's most beautiful open chapels. Day of the Dead vigils in its cemetery are among the country's most moving.
