The small state capital, one of Mexico's oldest colonial cities, with a handsome zocalo, the Government Palace murals, and the 16th-century San Francisco convent. The nearby Cacaxtla ruins hold vivid Maya-influenced murals. It is a quiet, walkable historic center.
