Loreto

The site of the first mission in the Californias, Nuestra Señora de Loreto Conchó, founded in 1697, whose stone church still anchors the town. Across the water, the islands of Loreto Bay National Park offer snorkeling, sea lions, and blue-footed boobies. The mission museum tells the story of the Jesuit expansion north.
