Champotón

A Gulf coast town about 60 kilometers south of Campeche city, where the Champotón river meets the sea. It was the Maya city of Chakanputun, site of the 1517 battle the Spanish called the Mala Pelea. Today it is a fishing town known for seafood restaurants along the river.
