Founded in 1634, Trois-Rivières is Quebec's second-oldest city, midway between Montreal and Quebec City on the St. Lawrence. Its name comes from the three channels the Saint-Maurice River forms where it meets the St. Lawrence. A former fur-trading post and paper capital, its old town and festivals like FestiVoix make it a genuine stop on the historic Chemin du Roy.
