An arts town in Charlevoix where the Gouffre River meets the St. Lawrence, about 90 minutes northeast of Quebec City. Galleries line Rue Saint-Jean-Baptiste, and the Musée d'art contemporain hosts a summer symposium where artists create new work in public. It is the birthplace of Cirque du Soleil, which grew from street performers here in the early 1980s.
